[jira] [Commented] (LEGAL-581) how to interpret "applicable law" under Apache License 2.0

Roy T. Fielding commented on LEGAL-581:
---------------------------------------

In general, any law that is applicable. Such things are determined by judges and lawyers, not by the people writing a license. There is no contract on earth that can change what or where a law is applicable – they can only change the agreed location for a contact disputes (and we have no such change-of-venue clause in our agreements).

> Hi I am Tac. Thank you in advance for helping me with this issue. I am writing to inquire about the word "applicable law" in Section 7 and Section 8 of the Apache License 2.0 (as well as in the boilerplate declaration).
> Specifically, does it mean:
> (A) the laws of the country where the Licensor domiciles;
> (B) the laws of the country where the Work is developed or created;
> (C) the laws of the respective countries where the the licensee makes use of the Work or Derivative Works;
> (D) the laws of certain country unilaterally determined by the Licensor;
> (E) the laws of certain country that requires further discussion and negotiation between the Licensor and licensee; OR
> (F) other interpretations: ______
> Thanks!
