[jira] [Commented] (HADOOP-11890) Uber-JIRA: Hadoop should support IPv6

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-11890?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=16757868#comment-16757868 ]

Konstantin Shvachko commented on HADOOP-11890:
----------------------------------------------

Hey [~templedf]. Her is the latest I heard from Gary Helmling.
{quote}pushed up a cleaned up version of our branch with only the IPv6 patches on top of 2.7.3 to github:
 [https://github.com/ghelmling/hadoop/tree/branch-2.7.3-ipv6]
 A full list of the commits applied in the branch is attached.
 This is basically the same set of changes that we are currently running.
 There are still some test issues to work out though. I've seen a number of tests fail unless -Djava.net.preferIPv4Stack=true is used.
{quote}
Attaching his change log too: [^hadoop_2.7.3_ipv6_commits.txt].
This was done for branch 2.7 back then. I don't know how much effort is needed to port it to trunk.

Hope this helps

> Hadoop currently treats IPv6 as unsupported. Track related smaller issues to support IPv6.
> (Current case here is mainly HBase on HDFS, so any suggestions about other test cases/workload are really appreciated.)
