i've been thinking about adding some simple in-protocol firewallish
security features to James, in a general fashion that can be used with
any protocol. in particular, about IP and user releated security
beyond authorization and authentication. i see this working in the
intersection between the handler and socket serving layers.

i've opened https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/JAMES-886 to allow
comments to be more easily recorded
