WSRP CSS recommendation

Hi,
     WSRP recommends CSS stylesheet names.
The expectation is that Consumers provide CSS styles that define
these attributes.
What exactly does this mean ?

Thanks,
Mohan

- From the WSRP specification
(http://www.oasis-open.org/committees/download.php/3343/oasis-200304-wsrp-specification-1.0.pdf),
section 10.6:

"[...]Using a common CSS style sheet for all Portlets, and defining a
set of standard styles, provides this common look-and-feel without
requiring the Portlets to generate Consumer-specific markup. Portlets
SHOULD use the CSS style definitions from this specification in order to
participate in a uniform display of their content by various Consumers.
For markup types that support CSS stylesheets, Consumers MUST supply a
CSS stylesheet to the End-User’s agent 30 with definitions for the
classes defined in section 10.6 of this specification.[...]"

The producer portlets SHOULD use the css style definitions on its
markup. Then each consumer MUST supply a CSS stylesheet with definitions
for the standard classes defined by the producer markup (i.e.
portlet-font, portlet-section-header, etc). The standard css styles are
defined in sections 10.6.1 to 10.6.7.

Diego.

So this means that the producers use predefined WSRP css classes(with required styles inside the classes ? )

The consumer picks up these standard CSS classes and overrides them ?? So the consumer does not use the producer supplied styles but only the class names. It supplies styles.

I am still trying to understand.

Thanks,
Mohan

The idea behind this is that the WSRP portlets provided by the producers use predefined WSRP css classes for presentation on the markup. Then the consumers can supply appropriate css files that use these classes to provide consistent look & feel for the portlets they consume (portlets which can be served from different producers).

Of course, the client can override the values of these classes on the agent (i.e. the browser).
