Also, we must continue to support the ANT build for those that may not want to depend on Maven (e.g. Eclipse?)

    Resolution: Fixed

Marking this JIRA resolved as we have had a Maven build for some time now. A new JIRA was recently opened to change the code tree structure to follow maven conventions.

Good Question.

We in Axis2 tried to move to Maven2. But we got to know the problems faced by various bugs in Maven2 as its in its early stages. We wanted to have a simple and stable version. So we preferred to stay with maven 1.x.
And Maven 1.x is not a pain if you do not have multi modules inside your project.

Thats why I preferred maven 1.x

Yeah, I do understand.
I also had lots of problems with maven 2 some monthes ago, but the 2.0.4 release
is quite stable.
In addition, maven 1 is not supported anymore and all projects are moving to maven 2,
I do not really see the point of changing the build system to use deprecated tool, and maven 2 allows publishing to m1 repos whereas m1 can not publish to m2 repos.

I can easily help setting up a m2 project ...

Sanjiva,

Are you seriously arguing against using JIRA to capture comments? :-)

Sure, we can wait till all projects move up. I'd still like to understand
the compatibility though.

We use maven 1 elsewhere in WS land .. can we stick to that version
until all the projects upgrade?

I've assigned this to myself since I need an excuse to learn Maven. I agree with Guillaume that if we are going to support Maven, then we should use the latest stable version.

Eran, can you please test your patch on 2.0.4? Thx.

As discussed on the dev list, we have a major event coming up and we need to prepare for that. We need to focus on the high priority items now. We can limp along using Ant until after the interop event.

    Attachment: pom.xml

Preliminary POM for building the main distributable "woden-M6-SNAPSHOT.jar". The test suite doesn't run completely. I am unaware whether I ought to disable some tests, or whether there's something wrong with my setup.

To create the other distributables with Maven, one ought to reorganize the layout. For example, one should create directories like "api", "impl", "eclipse", and so on, with the respective files. A good example is the Axiom project. I am ready to assist, if this should be required.
