[jira] [Created] (INFRA-4592) Staying subscribed to Apache Mailing-Lists but do not receive msgs

Staying subscribed to Apache Mailing-Lists but do not receive msgs
------------------------------------------------------------------

                 Key: INFRA-4592
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-4592
             Project: Infrastructure
          Issue Type: Improvement
      Security Level: public (Regular issues)
          Components: Mailing Lists
         Environment: all
            Reporter: Ben Stover

I appreciate very much the Apache tools and the corresponding Mailing Lists.
I am currently subscribe to some of them.

However I would like to be able to read posting to these Mailing-Lists NOT by email but through one of the
well know Forum browser based front ends like NABBLE. See this for example:

http://old.nabble.com/Subversion-f68.html

How can I avoid getting all new (tons of) postings from an Apache mailing list but do not unsubscribe from it?
Posting should still be possible by email or through nabble.com.
This seems to me a general problem of all Apache Mailing-Lists.

Ok, I know, the MailingList setup is up to the individual project owners.

However my guess is that the Mailing-List software does not offer such feature or (even more probable) the feature is not enabled.

Could this "subscribe-without-getting-postings" feature be activated and the attention of the mailing list owners be drawn to this?

Thank you
Ben

<danielsh> What's your question? Some lists (including subversion's) permit posting by non-subscribers.

<danielsh> I happen to be a Subversion PMC member. The page you link to says explicitly "You do not need to subscribe to post". That is our (Subversion's) current policy. Just email the list address, without subscribing.

Ben,

This is a decision made by each PMC. If you feel you want this changed for any given list you may want to ask these PMCs to ask for the change to be made. It is not an infrastructure decision.

Regards,
Tony

@danielsh:

Hmm, when I look at the Mailing List web page of subversion:

http://subversion.apache.org/mailing-lists.html

then I cannot see a "subscribe-without-posting-delivery"-option there
