Resolved as "Won't Fix". If there are any users of the kernel client, or anyone who actually has a need for the kernel client version, please let us know. We are shifting our efforts to the user-space client (https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-6253), but could be persuaded to resume work on this.
