standard load tests

thanks for helping with testing the sitetree. your comments about your 
performance testing reminded me that we really should have a standard 
set of performance tests that we can run (to track deviations etc)

would you mind outlining what you did in

at the same time, we should also keep an eye on the profiler, which i 
have found to be very useful in determining slow pipeline components.
