[jira] [Created] (NIFI-3407) Provide configtest like functionality for NiFi

Aldrin Piri created NIFI-3407:
---------------------------------

Summary: Provide configtest like functionality for NiFi
                 Key: NIFI-3407
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/NIFI-3407
             Project: Apache NiFi
          Issue Type: Improvement
          Components: Configuration
            Reporter: Aldrin Piri

Apache httpd has a process wherein the syntax of config files is checked and if there are any issues. While this isn't a direct mapping in terms of the functionality that I think would be useful it establishes a foundation. In terms of orchestrating deployments and managing instances, it could be helpful to have the ability to run a state of the instance kind of check which ensure validity as well as help determine possible "gotchas."

Ultimately, the idea is that we can generate a report of information that could help to provide a state of the configuration that would allow external tooling to make decisions as to how to interact.

An illustrative example is that of joining a secured cluster. In this case, some cursory inspection of the associated zookeeper instance might indicate that a cluster is already in place. This information could then be used to make determinations of next actions in terms of how to bring the associated instance online and facilitate joining the cluster.
