Due to the difference in the storage format of decimal data type in parquet versus the in-memory format within Drill using the decimal data type is not performant. Also some of the rules for calculating the scale and precision need to be changed. These two concerns will be addressed post 1.0.0 release and to prevent users from running into this we are disabling decimal data type by default.
