[DISCUSS] Phoenix support for HBase 0.96
I'd like to understand if there's enough interest out there for a Phoenix
release that works with HBase 0.96. It's my understanding that vendors are
moving to HBase 0.98 and there will likely be no further 0.96 releases.
Upgrade between the two is seamless (even through the versioning makes it
look like they wouldn't be).
FWIW, we have a JIRA for this here:
https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/PHOENIX-848
Thoughts, opinions, comments?
Thanks,
James

CDH5 is based on 0.96.1.1. CDH5.1 which should arrive soon is very likely
based on 0.98.1+. I'd suggest we just move on and just skip the
significant list of backporting work compiled by our Jeffrey Zhong up in
the above cited issue just to get Phoenix to work on CDH5.0.x. (Is it
unreasonable asking folks to upgrade their CDH if they want to run Phoenix?)

Majority of Hadoop/HBase customers will is going to upgrade to CDH5, hence

Re: [DISCUSS] Phoenix support for HBase 0.96
Posted by Gabriel Reid <ga...@gmail.com>.
Given that vendors do indeed appear to be moving to HBase 0.98 (I
wasn't aware of that until you mentioned it, but looking into it
further appears to confirm it), this has become less important for me,
so I'm ok with sticking with HBase 0.98.x compatibility based on the
assumption that there will be upcoming vendor releases that support
it.
The only issue that I can see in the short term is people who are
using vendor releases with HBase 0.96 and want to use Phoenix right
now (as this is a question that has come up a fair bit lately).
