[jira] [Commented] (INFRA-12554) Duplicated hadoop mailing lists

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-12554?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=15458850#comment-15458850 ]

Sebb commented on INFRA-12554:
------------------------------

All 4 mailing lists are still active, and mails are being archived to the respective mailboxes.

However, mails to user@hadoop are *also* being archived to the (common,hdfs,mapreduce)-user@hadoop archives.

This seems rather strange given that the stated intention was to merge the xyz-user mailing lists into a single user list.

I would have expected the (common,hdfs,mapreduce)-user@ user lists to be shut down and any mails to them redirected to user@.

> Several hadoop mailing lists were merged into one [1] in August 2012.
> However it looks as though the original list archives, i.e.
> (common,hdfs,mapreduce)-user@
> were not stopped at that point.
> So it seems that there are now 4 copies of all the mails sent to user@hadoop.
> This needs double-checking, but assuming that all the mails are being archived in user@hadoop, there's no point in continuing to archive the other 3.
