[Bug 124289] New: Calc won't open a file that's in use by another PC running it in Excel.

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=124289

            Bug ID: 124289
        Issue Type: DEFECT
Summary: Calc won't open a file that's in use by another PC
                    running it in Excel.
           Product: Calc
           Version: 4.0.1
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 8
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: blocker
          Priority: P3
         Component: open-import
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: Candice@sinklegs.com
                CC: issues@openoffice.apache.org

Hi. We use a combination of Excel and OpenOffice at my workplace. I installed
it on my coworker's computer. He shares spreadsheet files with two other users
in his office who are running Excel 2010 and Excel 2013. I can't attach the
file in question because it contains proprietary information, however, I can
describe the problem step by step.

1. When my Open Office user opens the file first, he can open it and view it
and edit it and "do all the things." The Excel user (doesn't matter which one)
gets a message saying that the file is in use by another user on the system,
and can still read the file if he chooses.

2. When the Excel user is the first one to open the file, he can open it, view
it, etc, BUT then, when the OpenOffice user double clicks on the file, the
computer returns "blue spinny wheel" and then nothing happens. The file does
not open, nor is there any hint of messages that sometimes display at the
bottom of the screen, nor do we get a message that someone is currently using
the file.

3. Context: We have been fighting some adware/malware/PUP viruses for the past
week or so. However, this has been going on for some time.

This is blocking our workflow; to put it in perspective, my users are in the
inventory department and they need this file in order to complete their orders
of materials to work with. Can you help us?

A problem with a single unknown "file" is not a blocker. I can't find out
whether that ever worked for reporter and what way. AOO menu 'Tools -> Share
Document' + similar Excel Function (? - I don't know whether it does exist)?
Some special document sharing software? Or may be that never worked for
reporter, he only would like to see it working? I did a quick test with
"AOO 4.0.1 – German UI / German locale [Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29]" on
German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4.0 User Profile used for all
predecessor versions
and
"AOO 4.0.1 – German UI / German locale [Rev. 1524958 2013-09-20 11:40:29]" on
German WIN7 Home Premium (64bit)", “historic” 4.0 User Profile used for all
predecessor versions: looked fine.

But I do not have much experience with document collaboration.
