As the next step, you should simply add a comment to the issue saying 
that you are stating to work on that (you will need to register, there's 
a link on the same page). And then you can start, all materials are 
already available.

We would appreciate to be kept informed about the progress, especially 
to know what to say if other volunteers approach us in future. We can 
help you with any difficulties, so just let us know in case.
