---------------------------------------------------------------

Thoughts on the Licensing FAQ - [https://www.apache.org/foundation/license-faq.html]:

*Introductory paragraph - UPDATED*

-The first sentence is useful, the second seems to be stating the bleeding obvious.-

-The first sentence says "licensing use of the software", which is unclear as to whether it means ASF software or any software under AL 2.0. I'm going to simplify to 'licensing of our software'.-

*Where can I find the Apache license?*

Fair enough.

-*I'm not a lawyer. What does it all MEAN?*- *- DELETED*

-An interesting section. There are things missing; needing to identify changes for example. Very useful section though, might need tightening.-

*If I'm using Apache software can I simply adhere to the Apache License 2.0, or do I have to also adhere to the Apache Software License versions 1.0 and 1.1? - DELETED*

-Is this a common question? Consider for DELETE. The answer is also more about the license migration 15 years ago.-

*Why are the license files for the different Apache Software Foundation projects different?*

Seems good.

*Is 'Apache' a trademark?*

Seems good.

*Is software from The Apache Software Foundation free?*

Seems good.

*Is there a fee for using Apache software in a commercial product? - MERGED*

-Feels like this could be integrated into the previous question.-

*What are the U.S. Export Classification Control Numbers (ECCNs) for the various Apache software packages?*

Seems good.

*Can I get Apache software on a CD-ROM? - DELETED*

-Dead link. DELETE.-

*May I include Apache software or documentation on a CD-ROM I'm making? - DELETED*

-Dead link. DELETE.-

*May I license my own software under the Apache license?*

Seems good. A link could be here for guidance on how to apply this.

*May I re-use (and modify) the ASF Contributor License Agreements (CLAs) for my own purposes?*

Good, but we should add more detail on modifying. Perhaps we should make a template that lacks the ASF specific content.

*May I re-use (and modify) the Apache License 2.0 itself?*

Looks fair. Some ideas here would be to suggest talking to the OSI if they want it to be considered Open Source, to talk to us if they think they are fixing 'bugs', and to strengthen the language about avoiding confusion.

*I've made improvements to the Apache code; may I distribute it?*

Fair. Some of the language feels confusing. "You may distribute the result under a different license" probably implies more than it should.

*May I call my modified code 'Apache'?*

Should also mention logos; and should reference something for redistributors.

*I have made changes to an Apache package and I want to distribute them. Do I need to contribute them to the Apache Software Foundation?*

We should repeat that they cannot maintain the name.

*May I translate the Apache license into my local language for my redistribution of Apache packages?*

Seems good.

*Is the Apache license compatible with the GPL (GNU Public License)?*

Seems good.

*What is the scope of patent grants made to the ASF?*

Long history here.

-*How do Apache projects apply the Apache license to their releases?*- *DELETED*

-Not sure this fits here. Unless we're answering indirectly offering some content for "How do I apply the license to my code?"-

*Can ASF PMCs host projects that are not under the Apache License?*

-"No" is good, though the link doesn't add value. Might be useful to link to a history page on creating the license, or keep it simple and just say No here.- *--- FIXED*

*Are contributors required to sign a CCLA?*

-Question is not quite right; "required to get their employers to sign a CCLA".- *- FIXED*
Also; maybe have a CLA FAQ that is separate from the license FAQ**
