Have you taken a look at https://cwiki.apache.org/confluence/display/METAMODEL/Building+connectors ?

And regarding runtime addition of metamodel sources ... We don't manage any collections of open sources in MetaModel. Consuming applications will do that themselves. For example like the MetaModel Membrane subproject does it. But regardless, all I can imagine in that regard is some advice on how to instantiate them - either via constructor or a DataContextFactory.
