[eve] She's alive!

Hi,

Over the weekend I was able to bring up Eve's front end. All the components

seem to assemble well. I have not tested her guts yet to see if I can get
request processing working so she might blow chunks when interacting with
clients at the moment. Also note that a lot is currently stubbed out. Most

requests (actually all) should return a refusal to perform operation
response from the server.

Over the next few weeks we'll get the kinks out and make the request
processor actually do some work. Initially I plan on having Eve front
other LDAP servers. Basically Eve's front end processors will use a
JNDI provider to do their work on behalf of the client. This means we
can make Eve work against another LDAP server to make sure the front
end operates as expected. This is great for testing because the behavior
of the LDAP operation can be tested against Eve and against the fronted
LDAP server and compared byte for byte to make sure there are absolutely
no differences what so ever.

Concurrently the backend should be massaged into the current spi/pojo/
Merlin scheme of ours and prepared as a server-side JNDI provider. This
way we just switch the provider used by the front end and wala our
virtual directory server is now a real directory server with a backend.

Perhaps Jeff's LDAP protocol testing framework has come far along enough
to use to start testing these things within the next few weeks. What do
ya think Jeff? If this is a problem for ya cuz I know you're busy perhaps
we can find some other volunteers until you are freed up.

Cheers,
Alex
