Reading assets from cordova.file.applicationDirectory ("file:///android_asset/") results in a prompt on newer Android Versions as "READ/WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE" is requested.
Quick Fix:
in needPermission (l. 570) in FileUtils added:
if (permissionType == READ && nativeURL.startsWith("file:///android_asset/")) {
return false;
}
