I run Netbeans via WSLg from within WSL2. Trickiest there is getting the DPI scaling right, and you get Linux LAF window borders instead of the Windows native title bar and border. Since I do nearly 100% of my personal development inside WSL2 it works well for me.

A challenge I've seen when accessing WSL2 files from the Windows side (even from a Browser), is if there's not something else running WSL2 will suspend or sleep and then the file handles go dead, which is a very unfriendly thing to do to an editor expecting to have random access to a file tree.

   Hello NetBeans team,

Any update on this issue please ?
There are a considerable number of developers using wsl2 with NetBeans IDE and running into the same issue.

    Thanks

WSL-Support in Netbeans would be awesome. What I did not try is to install netbeans in wsl itself, though.

as a workaround, you can use network drive (mount ubuntu as u:\ for example). This will allow you to open and work with projects. However, the speed of opening projects and pulling changes that were made outside the editor is much lower.

One could add the wsl as additional network drive. but this does not work perfect because there are some delays e.g. when creating a file the wsl may dont know about. after some sec./ minutes later its there. (eg. test with ls -al in wsl)

   currently i'm using a network drive with netbeans U:\ maps to wsl2 root (/) (Windows 11! )

vs codium/ vs code has an intressting implementation via a node server. manages files between wsl and windows. but in wsl you have a lot of throuse node-server thraets. see e.g with htop. same like with ssh connections making admins confused. but it works with very little delays. maybe there i a solotion hint to get it work with netbeans?

This seems to work for Java 19, but you have to manually type/paste the path since the WSL is not listed in the file chooser.
