Tomcat using port 0 -- tomcat.log
Hi,
in my logfile tomcat.log I found the following two lines. Why do I have
the first line and waht is port 0? Is this the reason why I get an
exception when shutting down tomcat?
Starting endpoint port="0" handler="org.apache.tomcat.service.http.HttpConnectionHandler"
Starting endpoint port="8007" handler="org.apache.tomcat.service.connector.Ajp12ConnectionHandler"

Here is my server.xml file. ~

<Server>
<!-- Debug low-level events in XmlMapper startup -->
<xmlmapper:debug level="0" />
<!-- This is quite flexible; we can either have a log file per
module in Tomcat (example: ContextManager) or we can have
one for Servlets and one for Jasper, or we can just have
one tomcat.log for both Servlet and Jasper.
If you omit "path" there, then stderr should be used.
verbosityLevel values can be:

INFORMATION
DEBUG

path="logs/tomcat.log"

path="logs/jasper.log"
verbosityLevel = "INFORMATION" />
<!-- Add "home" attribute if you want tomcat to be based on a different directory

I start tomcat from an shell script starting apache using
/bin/su webuser -c "$TOMCAT_HOME/bin/startup.sh" -s /bin/sh
Any ideas?

Hmmm, I don't know of any default HttpConnectionHandler. I thought that
only those parts are started which are configured within server.xml.
Please show us your whole server.xml.
How do you start the tomcat server(s), automatically or manually?
You can start it manually by calling
/tomcat.sh start -f <your_server.xml>

No you are wrong! This is my sever.xml (part of it)
<Connector className="org.apache.tomcat.service.SimpleTcpConnector">
<Parameter name="handler" value="org.apache.tomcat.service.connector.Ajp12ConnectionHandler"/>
<Parameter name="port" value="8007"/>
</Connector>
May be it is because I have no HttpConnectionHandler at all, there must be
something hidden?

Hi Volker,
it seems that in your file server.xml there is a section
<Connector className="org.apache.tomcat.service.SimpleTcpConnector">
<Parameter name="handler" value="org.apache.tomcat.service.http.HttpConnectionHandler"/>
<Parameter name="port" value="0"/>
</Connector>
This activates the built-in http server of tomcat on the port <value>.
(I never used a port 0 ... )
IMHO it is a quick start solution. Very nice for development.
But as I don't want to use it any longer and use apache instead, I removed this section.
bye, anke
