[jira] [Commented] (HDDS-7524) Compaction DAG node pruning (deleting part of the DAG > oldest retained snapshot)
[ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HDDS-7524?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=17640341#comment-17640341 ]
George Jahad commented on HDDS-7524:
------------------------------------
"oldest retained Snapshot" is a confusing term, (because in reality all snapshots are retained until explicitly deleted.) Instead, how about calling it something like: "oldest Snapshot with compaction history" or something along those lines?

> We will have a concept of oldest retained Snapshots. We will support efficient Snapdiffs from snapshots as old as this oldest retained one. We will Delete SST file nodes in the compaction DAG that will not be used in any SnapDiff since this oldest retained Snapshot.
> We will continue to support SnapDiffs from older Snapshots as well. But they will iterate over all the keys in the namespace.
