Subsite Howto Help

Everyone (anyone?), 
 
I just inherited a Jetspeed 2 deployed application (all the original
developers are gone).  I need to, as quickly as possible, partition it
into two subsites.  The problem I am having is finding a 'how to' guide
on using subsites.  While Jetspeed is new to me and I look forward to
learning about the Page Manager, Profile Locator, etc, right now I just
would like to know what steps I need to follow to get pages routed to a
subsite rather than the root.  In software terms, I'm looking to
'abstract away' that lower level detail (for now), so I can meet an
upcoming deadline.  Later on, time will be more on my side, and I can
dig in to those aspects of the system.  
 
To make matters worse (I think), the current system (which is all on an
internal, private network), uses no login or authentication.  So does
anyone know if such a guide exists anywhere?  I've looked and found
certain rules, etc. that should be added.  However, the authors all seem
to assume I know where this stuff goes, when I don't have a clue (ok, be
nice!).    Final point: I don't think much customization was done to the
deployment -> under ../WEB-INF/pages/__subsite-root/_role are two
directories: subsite and subsite2.  However, I can't make any of those
.psml pages come up.

I am in the processing of getting subsites fully working correctly  
(with fallback), its close.
