so that is the way I done it, created the repo area and left them to it.
You'll come accross Pig and others that copied each other and requested
the same empty repository for them to move manually later.

OK, I managed to update the repository so that it still can see the project history beyond the move. Unfortunately the only easy way to do so was to regenerate the entire history of the mirror, which will cause some trouble to existing clones. You may want to warn the dev@ list about the need to manually rebase any local Git commits.

Ouch, it would have been easier if you had simply moved the repository with a single "svn move .../hadoop/hive .../hive" command, as that's the kind of move our tooling knows how to handle. I'll see if I can teach git-svn how to preserve history over the piecewise move in revisions 1027721, 1027725, 1027726 and 1027730.
