PMD project for code quality?
I'm not from the PMD project but I find it interesting:
from the PMD website (<http://pmd.sourceforge.net>): PMD is a Java
source code analyzer. It finds unused variables, empty catch blocks,
unnecessary object creation, and so forth.
Maybe something to recommend to committers.
Regards,
-Vladimir
ps: if everyone already knows it: sorry (but no 'PMD' result when I
search the ml archive)
ps: if I posted in the wrong list: sorry (but since it's not project
specific)

I think the best thing about PMD is that it allows you to code up your own
rules - yea! Checkstyle beats it hands down wrt to features and speed. But as
soon as PMD gets a few more rules it will rock.

Another fun part of PMD is that it finds stuff like this:
public class Foo {
private boolean whatever;
public boolean bar() {
if (whatever) {
return true;
} else {
return false;
}
}
}
Blah! Just do a "return whatever;" and save an if..then statement!
Anyhow, a PMD-IDEA plugin is in the works as well...
Yours,
Tom

The latest Early Access Program (EAP) version of Intellij's IDEA IDE can
also highlight unused variables and import statements - I've been busy
refactoring some code to get rid of the cruft. PMD sounds neat as well.

Thanks Vladimir,
Yes, PMD is nice. It also has several plugins including one for Maven
that I have used and that produces very nice reports.
Thanks
-Vincent
PS: If you search for PMD on the maven list, you'll find several entries
;-)
