Patch attached as an update to the PR which didn't apply cleanly after SOLR-8090 and possibly other changes. The patch adds CHANGES.txt entry also. [~tommymh], please review to be sure I kept the spirit of the changes and let me know if you want your attribution in CHANGES.txt to use another name.
