   As a bonus, it would be interesting to add a benchmark to [localfs_benchmark.cc](https://github.com/apache/arrow/blob/master/cpp/src/arrow/filesystem/localfs_benchmark.cc). This would make sure we detect if there's ever a regression in the performance of this function.
