[users@httpd] Specify non-apache url for basic auth

Hi All,
I have apache 1.3 as a front end on win2000, and i am
trying to use a back end url (not using apache) for basic authentication
for the front end.
After reading through the mod_proxy docs, it seems the proxy also needs to
be
an apache server with mod_proxy running on it. I'm just wondering if there
is a module where i can specify a remote url for authentication.
