[jira] Created: (HADOOP-3090) dynamically add/subtract dfs.name.dir directories

dynamically add/subtract dfs.name.dir directories
-------------------------------------------------

                 Key: HADOOP-3090
                 URL: https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/HADOOP-3090
             Project: Hadoop Core
          Issue Type: New Feature
            Reporter: Allen Wittenauer
            Priority: Minor

It would be very beneficial to be able to add and subtract dfs.name.dir entries on the fly. This would be used when one drive fails such that another location could be used to keep image and edits redundancy.

[jira] Commented: (HADOOP-3090) dynamically add/subtract dfs.name.dir directories

Sameer Paranjpye commented on HADOOP-3090:
------------------------------------------

It'd be better to introduce a 're-apply config' feature for the Namenode. Then we could add/remove nodes and do other such things without bouncing the namenode.
