Mac OS X: svn: cannot set locale
Hello,
I am trying to install subversion for my first time on Mac v.10.2.4. I
have fink installed (updated CVS today). I downloaded the "boot strap"
image 'subversion-r5118.tar.gz' and ./configure and make work fine, but
then when I try
$ clients/cmdline/svn
svn: error: cannot set the locale
also when I try
$ sudo make install
...
subversion/svnversion/svnversion . /repos/svn/trunk >
/usr/local/include/subversion-1/svn-revision.txt
svnversion: error: cannot set the locale
make: *** [revision-install] Error 1
When I start 'Ximian Evolution' it works fine, but on std out:
Gdk-WARNING **: locale not supported by C library
I do not know if it is related, but I am very willing to provide any
information that may assist someone helping me.

yeah, but we changed our setlocale call to use LC_CTYPE, rather than
LC_ALL, so at least now it won't fail ALL the time. unfortunately,
judging from Lloyd's email it is pickier than one would like about what
your LANG environment variable is set to.

setlocale was known to be broken on OS X[1].

Hello Ben,
Thank you for the hint. 'locale' is on a TB of news groups and web
pages, but as far as I can tell no answers to my search... your hint
made me 'man setlocale' and from there I figured to set LANG=en_US and
it works! I guess having a LANG set is a requirement to get it to work
on OS X 10.2.
Aside: it does not affect the Evo mesg.

Does your C library not have the setlocale() function? It's a
