[Bug 121621] New: Jre

https://issues.apache.org/ooo/show_bug.cgi?id=121621

            Bug ID: 121621
        Issue Type: DEFECT
           Summary: Jre
    Classification: Test
           Product: *Testproduct
           Version: OOo 3.4 Beta
          Hardware: PC
                OS: Windows 7
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: P3
         Component: another
          Assignee: issues@openoffice.apache.org
          Reporter: dydaniel@gmail.com

I am getting an error message when I open a new writer document or a database.
The message is titled: JRE is defective.
the error message:
"Openoffice.org requires a Java runtime environment (JRE) to perform this task.
The selected JRE is defective. Please select another version or install a new
JRE and select it under Tools - Options - Openoffice.org - Java".

Following these directions, I did not find "Options" under "Tools". I went to
"Preferences" and found "Java". There I found that there were no JRE's listed.

I have not changed anything. I simply went in to use the application as I
normally would and this error message came up.

Please advise!

Please read the Release Notes:
http://www.openoffice.org/development/releases/3.4.1.html#AOO3.4.1ReleaseNotes-KnownIssues

Apache OpenOffice 3.4.0 and 3.4.1 support Java 7, which is the recommended
configuration; but (especially on 64-bit Windows) you might receive warnings
about the Java version being defective. In that case, download and install the
Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package.

You have to install
http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/B/C/5BC5DBB3-652D-4DCE-B14A-475AB85EEF6E/vcredist_x86.exe

That message is about the menu "Tools" in OpenOffice. Open this menu from any
document's menu bar, and there is a "Options..." menu item (it's the last one
on the menu).

There is no "Preferences" menu in OpenOffice. Are you sure you found it on
OpenOffice, or in your system?

Make sure you have a Java 32 bits installed (I assume you already have one, if
not go to http://www.java.com and make sure you download a 32 bits version even
if your Windows 7 is 64 bits), and follow the advice in comment 1
