[OT] Avoiding spam

Hi Guys,

Slightly off topic, I notice when I post, my email address ends up on
hundreds of websites on google. How do people get around this? Fake
email addresses?

Best Regards,
Jacob

Jacob,

Take a gmail address as I did. You can fetch all mail using pop and send
using gmail-smtp, and spam filtering is excellent. If it becomes too much to
handle, you can always delete this account and create a new one.

Another option would be to create a special popbox for this purpose, and set
a rule in your mail app that only accepts mails from certain addresses.

Good spam filtering. "Security by obscurity" of not publishing my real
email address can cost me business when someone can't get hold of me -
and sooner or later I'll slip and the spammers will get my address
anyway.

On this address, I see a little over 200 spam emails a day, of which 2-3
bypass the defences. At home, I usually see over 500 a day - similarly
with a little over 1% getting through the filters.
