Release Apache Gravitino (Incubating) 0.8.1-incubating RC5

Hi,

Here is the fifth RC for the 0.8.1 release. It has minor changes from the 0.8 release, including bug fixes, dependency updates, and the removal of the WIP disclaimer.

There is only one minor change from RC4, the “.gitignore” file has been added to the source release, there are no other changes.

The commit hash is the same 949237c, which also corresponds to the tag v0.8.1-incubating-rc5. Note again, this is identical to the rc4 tag.

The release artifacts can be found in the official ASF release area:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/incubator/gravitino/v0.8.1-incubating-rc5/

The KEYS file to verify the release can be found here:
https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/release/incubator/gravitino/KEYS

The Python package is here:*
https://pypi.org/project/apache-gravitino/0.8.1/

Artifacts are staged on Nexus here:
https://repository.apache.org/content/repositories/orgapachegravitino-1132

The vote will be open for 72 hours or as long as needed.

Please vote:
[ ] +1 Release this as Apache Gravitino 0.8.1-incubating
[ ] +0
[ ] -1 Do not release this because…

Again, when voting, please list what you checked in the release, not just any issue(s) with it. A good release checklist can be found here. [1]

This vote will pass if there are 3 or more PPMC +1 votes and more +1 votes than -1 votes.

Kind Regards,
Justin

Hi, Justin

Thank you for your efforts on the release!

The file name should be revised to "gravitino-trino-connector-0.8.1-incubating.tar.gz.sha512"
from "gravitino-trino-connector-0.8.1-incubating.tar.gz.sha.512" by removing the extra
periods. If this is not a critical issue, I will proceed with a +1, as outlined in the remaining
verification steps:

✅ download links are OK
✅ checksum and signature are good
✅ build the src using JDK8 on Ubuntu env (./graldew build)
✅ The availability of binary package (Unpack and test the setuped process)

Thanks,
Minghuang Li

+1(binding)

I checked the followings:

- The download links are OK.
- The checksum are good.
- Can build with Java 8 on MacOS 15.4.1
- `pip install apache-gravitino==0.8.1` success
- Gravitino server run successfully using MacOS

It’s best practice when voting:
- Point to ASF policy for reasons for voting -1
- Indicate if the vote is binding or not.

The file has been renamed to “.sha512”.

Kind Regards,
Justin

I found that the postfix of the SHA-512 signature file for
gravitino-trino-connector-0.8.1-incubating.tar.gz
<https://dist.apache.org/repos/dist/dev/incubator/gravitino/v0.8.1-incubating-rc5/gravitino-trino-connector-0.8.1-incubating.tar.gz>
is “sha.512”, while other files have “sha512”. Is this an error?

+1 (binding)
I checked the following:

- signatures and hashes are good
- DISCLAIMER exists
- LICENSE and NOTICE are fine
- No unexpected binary files in the source release
- source files have ASF headers
- "./gradlew clean build" build success on my Mac with Java 17.0.4

[VOTE}[RESULT] Release Apache Gravitino (Incubating) 0.8.1-incubating RC5

Posted by Justin Mclean <ju...@classsoftware.com>.
Hi,

More than 72 hours have passed and this vote passes with 3 + 1 votes from:
- Justin Mclean
- Shaofeng Shi
- Kang Zhou

You Hui voted -1, but the issue has been corrected (removing a “.” from a sha512 file), so I’m assuming that’s no longer a -1 vote. Minghuang Li's vote might also be considered a +1 vote.

Note two +1 votes are from IPMC members.

Kind Regards,
Justin

Hi,

+1 binding. The binary files are identical to the previous RC, the source release is identical with the addition of a single “.gitignore” file. I was able to compile from source.
