Who do I contact to debug mail server connectivity problems?

My work email system is unable to send email to subscribe to this group. The IT department does not know why it appears that the apache mail server is not receiving the email. I can find no email of phone contact information about how to debug this problem.

Would someone please forward me technical support contact information?

Sincerely,

Ian

In case anyone is interested, I am posting the details below

Ian,

I received a failure notification late yesterday afternoon from our STMP server. It turns out the problem isn't with us receiving an email back. The problem is with them never getting the email sent from us. Here is what I found in the logs:

This indicates that our server cannot connect to their server. It doesn't tell me why but it is most likely a DNS or server failure. We currently have no reported problems of this happening with any email servers at any other companies. I attempted to send an email to postmaster@ws.apache.org but got the same result. The problem is specific to ws.apache.org. In most situations like this if I have a contact at the company I can attempt to contact their email person and find out why they are rejecting our messages. I didn't see a phone number on their web site. If you can get me a phone number of somebody to contact at Apache I will be happy to pursue this further.

Thanks

Corey

Hi, Ian,

I can't tell you, what your problems are. But I seriously doubt that
ws.apache.org has any. The DNS records are there:

    [jwi@stujwi ws-jaxme]$ nslookup -type=mx ws.apache.org
    Server: 192.168.1.254
    Address: 192.168.1.254#53

    Non-authoritative answer:
    ws.apache.org mail exchanger = 10 mail.apache.org.

Authoritative answers can be found from:
    apache.org nameserver = ns1.us.bitnames.com.
    apache.org nameserver = ns2.surfnet.nl.
    apache.org nameserver = ns.hyperreal.org.
    apache.org nameserver = ns1.eu.bitnames.com.
    mail.apache.org internet address = 209.237.227.199
    ns.hyperreal.org internet address = 209.237.226.90
    ns1.eu.bitnames.com internet address = 84.243.240.3
    ns1.us.bitnames.com internet address = 63.251.223.170
    ns2.surfnet.nl internet address = 192.87.36.2
    ns2.surfnet.nl has AAAA address 2001:610:3:200a:192:87:36:2

And a connect works quite fine:

    [jwi@stujwi ws-jaxme]$ telnet mail.apache.org 25
    Trying 209.237.227.199...
    Connected to mail.apache.org.

I suggest, that your IT department tries to reproduce the above steps,
before guessing about problems on the Apache side. If, after that, they
still have the impression, that somethings wrong, you might open an
issue on http://issues.apache.org/jira in the infrastructure project.
