Accessing a Vector object from a VB Client
Hi,
I have my web service written in Java. There are various methods( returns a
String, String[], Vector).
I am finding some problem with returning a String[] and a Vector.
Any of you guys have implemented a VB client that handles a String[] or a
Vector object, returned by a web service implemented in Java.
Thanks in Advance,
Shankar Shanmugam

String[] should work: what error(s) are you seeing?
For Vector, you must write a custom deserializer. The SOAP spec defines XML
schema simple types and arrays thereof, so those are the only types you can
assume will serialize and de-serialize across SOAP implementation without
any work on your part. From the XML schema perspective, Vector is a complex
type. It is a custom implementation of Apache SOAP that Vector can be
[de-]serialized. In VB, you must write your own code.
Generally speaking, your services will interoperate best with various SOAP
implementations if you stick to XML schema simple types and arrays. A quick
list of XML simple types is at
http://www.w3.org/TR/xmlschema-0/#SimpleTypeFacets. Unfortunately, Apache
SOAP supports only a subset of these at this time. For example, it does not
support the unsigned types.
