[jira] [Commented] (CASSANDRA-9836) Allow comments on CQL table columns

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/CASSANDRA-9836?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14644237#comment-14644237 ]

Aleksey Yeschenko commented on CASSANDRA-9836:
----------------------------------------------

Relevant [blog post|http://www.craigkerstiens.com/2013/07/29/documenting-your-postgres-database/] on the way it's implemented in posgres and the rationale.

Should allow commenting on everything (keyspaces, tables, indexes, views, columns). Maybe not UDT sub-fields though.

Will add the necessary columns in CASSANDRA-6717, which is easy. Actual {{COMMENT ON}} DDL statements will have to come later, some time in 3.x (low priority).

> We have a _comment_ option for tables. Having such a comment on individual columns (as many other databases have) would be nice especially when executing a {{DESCRIBE TABLE foo}}.
> Further, we could add comments in the same way for UDTs and UDT fields.
> Also for UDFs, UDAs and MVs (maybe not on the MV columns individually).
