[configuration] binary builds.

I know it's a Sandbox project, but I was wondering if there's anywhere I can
find recent builds of configuration to play with. I'm behind a firewall at work
and have had little luck getting cvsGrab to work through the local HTTP proxy.
Even if I do manage to get a copy of that module, the ant build process requires
unfettered HTTP access to fetch all the required jars it needs. I haven't been
able to find snapshots or other built copies of this project, are they out there?

thanks!
Hernan

Ant was in my path by default (/usr/local/bin/ant)

Java 1.4 is installed in /usr/local/jdk1.4.2, you'll have to manually
set JAVA_HOME to point to this.

RE: [configuration] binary builds.

Posted by Eric Pugh <ep...@upstate.com>.
Does Ant and java exist on cvs.apache.org? I'm not too familiar with what
resources are available on cvs.apache.org... Could I upload a copy of
configuration to my home directory and just run ant from the ssh prompt?

You could always ssh into cvs.apache.org, do a CVS checkout, build, and
see what happens...

Re: [configuration] binary builds.

Posted by Dirk Verbeeck <di...@pandora.be>.
There were 2 problems, the <targetPath> in the resource copy wasn't
taken into account and somehow cactus.home.tomcat4x was added to the
javadoc tag.

RE: [configuration] binary builds.

Posted by Eric Pugh <ep...@upstate.com>.
Okay, I tried the 'ant dist' target on my box, and of course it worked fine.
I suspect b/c I am on windows... Looking at the error, I'm guessing that it
is some sort of parsing the path that is different between Windows and
Linux.

Would it be too much of a pain for you to run the maven build and let me
know if the path fails there as well? I'm not much of an expert on the
differences between windows and linux unfortunantly when it comes to these
path resolutions...

At least if it fails in Maven and Ant then we know it isn't something funky
with how the build.xml file gets generated.

Any other configuration developers have ideas? Or have linux and can try
it?

I just tried it (CVS upate, then "ant clean dist"), and it doesn't work for me

Re: [configuration] binary builds.

The output has to be added to the gump descriptors in the gump cvs.
http://cvs.apache.org/viewcvs.cgi/jakarta-gump/project/jakarta-commons-sandbox.xml?rev=1.149&view=auto

The best way to do this is to post a request to the gump-dev mailing
list, then they can verify if the descriptor is OK.

RE: [configuration] binary builds.

Posted by Eric Pugh <ep...@upstate.com>.
Okay,

Since the project is primarily built with Maven, the build.xml hadn't been
updated in a while. I ran 'maven ant' and the resulting build file works
and is now checked in!

I guess I should follow up with finding out how to get Gump building as
well? It seems like most of the jakarta projects seem to use Gump. And
with the large number of dependencies that Configuration has, it might be
good to include it as well. I ran 'maven gump' and got a resulting gump.xml
that looks like what is required?

Right now, this problem is blocking my ability to add "configuration" to the set
of nightly builds that I run ... the fact that the unit tests fail (at line 82
of build.xml) blocks the creation of the binary distribution files.

Craig is the man to talk to for the nightly builds.
He runs the builds for jakarta-commons.

The only requirement is that ant clean dist works but you also might
want to change the maven generated ant file to a more traditional
build.xml file. (take the build file of commons-modeler as example)
At least make the junit tests non mandatory.

Dirk,

How do you get a commons component added to the nightly builds? I looked
around on the commons docs and only found stuff on releases etc...

The configuration component isn't added to the automated nightly
builds yet.
Here is a manual build:

http://cvs.apache.org/~dirkv/builds/commons-configuration-1.0-dev-3-src.tar.gz
