The method ClassLoader#getResourceAsStream is a standard Java way to access resources contained within the application classpath, e.g. in the jar.

The method properties.load(new FileInputStream("filename.properties")) is fine for external files, but does not work for files contained within the application jar.

The version.properties file is included in each of the HC jar(s) and so the code uses ClassLoader#getResourceAsStream
