Some Spindle news.

Hey, is this getting annoying? In other words, is everyone I'm
reaching in this way already subscribed to the RSS feed? Should I stop
sending mail to the lists for things I put in the blog?

An absolute must.

automatic discovery is good, but i still like having the announcements
on this list, in rss, etc.. the more channels the better i think.
(plus all the mail-archived links etc keep your google ratings high :)

keep up the good work!

When I create 3.2.0 I will fix it so that automatic update discovery
will work. That means the update url will change. I think I will try
this.. the announcement of 3.2.0 will be the last overt announcement
to the tapestry user list. In it's place I'll add a sig with enough
info that someone can find the spindle list and the blog/rss feed. Of
course that means I'll need to start using this list more often :-)

Geoff

P.S. With the release of 3.2.0 I'm going to concentrate more on
Tapestry 4.0 support (Spindle 4.0). This means that bug fixes to the
old code will be slower in coming. Get your beefs in now!

That actually brings up another good point. Since Spindle can now
"update" from within eclipse (versus having to do a new install each
time), allowing eclipse to do periodic plugin updates or to run
update on startup may help out a lot in getting the latest Spindle
release in a timely manner in the absence of announcements.

*g* good question. The answer is probably not. I'd probably just visit
the blog or check for spindle updates via eclipse on a monthly basis or
some such. :)

Is this a chicken and the egg type scenario? I mean, since
announcements are made here, there's been no real motivation to
subscribe. If the announcements were not made here, would you then
subscribe?

I suspect that most people on this list have not subscribed to either
the RSS feed or the Spindle announce list not because they don't care
to, but because there has been no need to.

I'm not subscribed to the RSS feed, so, I appreciate the mailing-list
updates.

+1 for continuing to mail your announcements to this list.

It's not annoying at all. Spindle is vital part of Tapestry.
You should be presented with a "key to the list". ;-)

Cheers,
Nick.

Since I like to be difficult, I have to disagree. I don't find the
announcements themselves annoying, but I think it indicates to people
that this is the list for general Spindle questions. There is a
dedicated Spindle mailing list for these questions, but it's easy for
people to overlook that list when Spindle announcements are being
made here. Note that my beef isn't really with traffic volume, it's
with now having to consult two different lists to find answers to
questions.
