Including the misspelling, I guess.  =)  That was my original query;
I'm used to seeing unsubscribe requests on mailing lists, but never so
many with the exact same misspelling.

Not so strange if you consider human nature.

What happens first is that someone who hasn't read (or didn't save) the original
confirmation message wants to unsubscribe. They don't know how, so they somehow
come to the conclusion that sending an "unsubscribe" message to the list itself
is the right way -- or at least an effective way.

Then, other people who have wanted to unsubscribe but didn't know how see this,
and say "oh, so *that* is how you do it", and mimic the same behavior.

I will work on adding the trailer to list messages, but my experience is that
this scenario happens just as often on lists with trailers as lists without.

The repeated "unsuscribe" requests are strange.

This is what shows as the Admin commands.

--- Administrative commands for the struts-user list ---

I can handle administrative requests automatically. Please
do not send them to the list address! Instead, send
your message to the correct command address:

To subscribe to the list, send a message to:
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>

To remove your address from the list, send a message to:
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>

Send mail to the following for info and FAQ for this list:
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>

Similar addresses exist for the digest list:
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>

To get messages 123 through 145 (a maximum of 100 per request), mail:
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>

To get an index with subject and author for messages 123-456 , mail:
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>

They are always returned as sets of 100, max 2000 per request,
so you'll actually get 100-499.

To receive all messages with the same subject as message 12345,
send an empty message to:
   <st...@jakarta.apache.org>

The messages do not really need to be empty, but I will ignore
their content. Only the ADDRESS you send to is important.

You can start a subscription for an alternate address,
for example "john@host.domain", just add a hyphen and your
address (with '=' instead of '@') after the command word:
<st...@jakarta.apache.org>

To stop subscription for this address, mail:
<st...@jakarta.apache.org>

In both cases, I'll send a confirmation message to that address. When
you receive it, simply reply to it to complete your subscription.

If despite following these instructions, you do not get the
desired results, please contact my owner at
struts-user-owner@jakarta.apache.org. Please be patient, my owner is a
lot slower than I am ;-)

Just a thought... Tomcat puts the unsubscribe directions at the end of each
message send by the email list. I don't have an example to show, since I just
unsuscribed (just a little humor) yesterday and deleted all the old messages
from my system.

Noticed the same. Even tried unsubscribing and subscribing again to see
if there was a bug in the instructions, but I didn't see anything.

Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed an large number of
unsubscription requests lately, all misspelled in exactly the same
manner?
