http://tomcat.apache.org/connectors-doc/miscellaneous/changelog.html

Downloads:
http://tomcat.apache.org/download-connectors.cgi

Please note that syncing the release to the download mirrors
might take up to 48 hours.

Important Notice:
Version 1.2.29 has been withdrawn from the released versions

Why? The fact that the ASF has retired httpd-1.3 doesn't mean
that the world has stopped using it, or *will* stop using it
before the next connectors release.

+1, but again IMHO svn rm only in the (not to far away) future 1.3.x
branch/trunk.

This doesn't mean we need to maintain the jk_nt_service and jni code,
because we didn't for a long time in 1.2.x. ajp12 is working, but IMHO
is no longer of any good use. So we shouldn't break it in 1.2.x, but can
remove in 1.3.x. jkant and ajp14 review needed.

Rainer

Sure, this is pretty obsolete code, as well as few other things
like jkant, jni and ajp12 workers.
We should also review ajp14 code, which seems will never be
implemented (at least not in a way it was meant)

Along the same lines...

Does it make sense to svn rm the jk_nt_service tree as well? Seems the commons
daemon is all that is maintained anymore.

Hehe, the radicals. I'd say: we don't intend to add more features to
1.2.x. We still support it but since it is pretty stable we don't expect
much release activity.

Declaring it "final" before even the first 1.3.x release seems a bit
strong ;)

All right. Should we indicate, that the NSAPI support lacks some of the
features? Most of the features that have been added e.g. via Jk...
directives have not been ported to NSAPI. Everything that can be
expressed via workers.properties is fine, but the things that need
configuration integration into the web server itself haven't been ported.

+1.
Roll 1.2.31 as last 1.2.x release and
declare trunk as 1.3.x with deprecated connectors removed.
Not so sure for nsapi thought, cause that web server
is still developed and I'd like to keep it maintained.
(Well at least for as long as the Oracle is giving it for free).

Coll. I'll do some testings on IIS6 and IIS7

I would like that we create a RC pretty soon (this month)
and finally create 1.2 branch

I'm done on my changes for 1.2.31
Log rotation should be done (pending testing by someone other than me ;),
and a quick scan of the IIS bugs didn't reveal any obvious candidates for
further fixes.

OK, so we can create 1.2.x branch from which further
1.2.xx releases will be cut, and promote a trunk to 1.3.x

tcnative has that from day one (version in .rc file)
(although maintained by hand, rather then from tcn_version.h)

Sounds like consensus suggests a next connector release, then branch 1.2.x for
maintenance, and axe ancient servers and connection code such as ajp12 from the
post-1.2 trunk for some future 1.3 connector releases. Thanks all.

I will still ignore dll/so module versioning for the ancients, e.g. apache 1.3
on win32 has been strongly discouraged for a decade, and jk_nt_service is long
abandoned :) But the tcnative connector and similar could also have version
resources for identification.

I agree on the latter, i.e. not removing the old cruft in the 1.2.x
release series, but soon starting a mod_jk 1.3.x series with removed
cruft. I'm fine with doing 1.2.31 before branching if e.g. Tim can
finish what he wants to add in a few weeks.

Redirector log rotation though, before we start on 1.3.

I know, I meant mod_jk security fixes concerning mod_jk 1.2.x for Apache
1.3 in case the root cause sits in mod_jk.

The Apache HTTP Project will no longer be providing releases for security fixes,
enhancements or critical bugs to 1.3.  See;

  http://www.apache.org/dist/httpd/Announcement1.3.html

So while a patch might be 'published' - it will not be released. The original
plan called for taking down 1.3.42 from the dist/ site some 6-12 months. We'll see.

It should *NOT* be surprising to users that 1.3 is not supported. This was hinted
at for a decade, and officially announced on 2 Feb 2010 accompanied by various press
reports heralding its demise.

I don't have any problem of freezing the 1.3 support concerning features
and minor bugs, but I find it a bit surprising for users to suddenly
stop supporting 1.3. In my opinion we should still do security fixes
when needed and critical bugs. Most os the time the 1.3 support is
cheap, because fixes or enhanceents are in the common code.

So telling users now, that we only plan to do security fixes on the 1.3
support would be OK for me.

I think that mod_jk 1.2 (all web servers) should stay pretty stable now
w.r.t features and it would make more sense to start 1.3

- with reasonable default values for all of those timeouts etc. that
have been added over time and which are all of by default
- with adding some probing to the watchdog thread
- I would like to add saving of changes done via the status worker
- and dropping support for Apche 1.3 and likely also NSAPI

I have the impression there is not enough dev time available at the
moment for bigger things like migrating it to APR, but a switch to 1.3
would allow us to formulate a clear message (some incompatibilities,
partially dropped support and a couple of new features).

Regards,

Rainer

With this release, following the retirement of httpd-1.3 from all maintenance,
would this be a good time to declare this the final native/apache-1.3/ connector
