Summary: can't start win32 service using non-privileged user
Product: Apache httpd-2
Version: 2.2.2
Platform: Other
OS/Version: Windows 2000
Status: NEW
Severity: normal
Priority: P2
Component: All
AssignedTo: bugs@httpd.apache.org
ReportedBy: danielc@analysisandsolutions.com
I've been running 1.3 as a non-privileged user on my Windows 2000 machine for
years without incident. I just upgraded to 2.x (2.2.2) the other day. It
starts fine if the "Log On" "user" is system, but the service won't start if I
switch "This account" to the non-privileged user I was using for 1.3. Here are
the error dialog boxes:
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
httpd.exe - Application Error
The instruction at "0x6eec38bc" referenced memory at "0x00000000". The memory
could not be "read".
I then hit "cancel" to debug...
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
vvvvvvvvvvvvvvvv
vs7jit.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
The file permissions on the install directory are correct.

sorry; my bad - you can't manage the server, it should run as an unprivilaged
user. But this is likely to be a perms problem with either the logs\ directory
(must be writeable) or similar (cache files etc).
