name & property

I've created a form with with a radio tag in it ( but I guess it's the same for all others tag ) in which I was given a different value for 'name and 'property', doing this the 'setter' method on my form was never called, so I would like to know what are the differences between 'name' and 'property' ( the specifications are not very clear about that).

Could some one explain me those differences,
