[I] Console: ensure packaged builds are reproducible [polaris-tools]
snazy opened a new issue, #95:
URL: https://github.com/apache/polaris-tools/issues/95
I ran a quick experiment to see whether a `npm run build` is reproducible (it's not, every build produces a different output in the `dist/` folder).
I'm absolutely not experienced in the npm or ts area, but I've seen people mentioning "Nix" in the context of reproducible builds. Exploring that might be an option.

Hi @snazy! That's interesting. I remember we were trying to put lock file and keep it among the project, but it somehow was against the terms. And during the CI build job we only check if project can be built with no issues.
So, what I get it is that polaris-tools/console will not be distributed as package or library and it's not necessary to measure reproducibility. @jbonofre correct me if I'm wrong.

I have mistakenly pushed the code on the main branch of my forked repo and then created pull request so i am closing it. @dimas-b

curl -fsSL https://get.jetify.com/devbox | bash
cd console/
devbox init
cat > devbox.json <<EOF
{
"$schema": "https://raw.githubusercontent.com/jetify-com/devbox/0.16.0/.schema/devbox.schema.json",
"packages": ["nodejs@25.2.1"],
"shell": {
"init_hook": [
"npm install"
],
"scripts": {
"build": [
"npm run build"
]
}
}
}
EOF
devbox run build
tar --mtime="1980-02-01 00:00:00 UTC" -cf a.tar dist/
rm -rf dist
devbox run build
tar --mtime="1980-02-01 00:00:00 UTC" -cf b.tar dist/
sha256sum a.tar b.tar
# same sha256 💥
