HiveUtils/HiveLock howto

Hi folks,

does anyone of you know about a (good) howto on HiveUtils/HiveLock?
I would like to know what they can be used for and how -
I'm mainly interested in the security stuff...

I've searched the web but also on the Hivetranse homepage
there doesn't seem to exist any documentation (the javadoc
is also not very helpful).

If someone knows or can tell from his/her own experience
I would very much like to hear of you ;)

Thanks!
  Andreas

Hi Jean-Francois,

well, yes, the homepage tells a little bit what is possible with
Hivetranse etc. but you get no information on _how_ to do it
(the few examples are far from complete especially after having
heard from you what further features the package has).

| What about a hivetranse wiki? Actually, I must admit I didn't even think
| about it! The fact is I am not acquainted with the setup of a wiki site (I
| don't even know where I can download wiki).

If you need help just let me know, I could also setup one for you if you want.
I've already intalled many different systems (blogs, image galeries, forums,
etc.) - a wiki shouldn't be that difficult ;)

Kind regards,
  Andreas

Hi Andreas,

Actually, I just checked on the HiveMind Utilities web page and most
information is already there (I just updated it a little bit in my reply and
put a bit more details). As a matter of fact, the home page describes each
available module (hivetranse, hiveutils, hivelock...) in more detail to give
an overview of what you could use it for. I will add more details to this
page though, and I will put links to the quick start or the javadoc/hivedoc
to find more details on some specific points.

What about a hivetranse wiki? Actually, I must admit I didn't even think
about it! The fact is I am not acquainted with the setup of a wiki site (I
don't even know where I can download wiki).

I will try to take a look at that this week-end.

Ah, one interesting point I forgot about HiveLock, it allows you to create
"Stateful Session Beans" (if I dare use the EJB vocabulary), ie,
HiveMind-managed services that have one instance for each connected user.
This is accessible through a new HiveMind Service Model (named "user") that
you use instead of the other standard ones (singleton, primitive, threaded,
and pooled). Very straightforward to apply.

Cheers

Jean-Francois

Hi Jean-Francois,

thanks a lot for your long answer! What about putting all of the
information on the hivetranse homepage or in a hivetranse wiki?
I'm quite sure many other people will be highly interested in it...

Next week I will take a closer look at HiveUtils. ;)

Hi Andreas,

Sorry for not providing (yet) any useful doc for HiveLock on the hivetranse
web site.

However, you may consider taking a look at:
- the "lock.example" module that comes with the HiveMind Utilities source:
it demonstrates the use of HiveLock sided with SecurityFilter (for
authentication). Although not Tapestry-oriented, I believe it should not be
a problem (I could not check however, I am not a Tapestry user) to migrate
it to a Tapestry app.
- the "caucho.example" is another example (its usage of HiveLock is quitre
similar to the example above)
- the HiveBoard application (http://hiveboard.sourceforge.net) that is using
HiveLock in a quite usual way (ie, the way it was intended to be used).

For HiveUtils, it depends on what you are interested in, HiveUtils provides
a lot of different utilities (that could not belong to any other modules of
the HiveMind Utilities) and are not meant to be used at 100% in one project.
Could you give more details of what is of interest to you in HiveUtils, or
of what kind of utility you are looking for?

Cheers

Jean-Francois
