XalanTransformer memory leaks in Release on Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0

Greetings,
	I have experienced a strange phenomenon where I get massive amounts of
memory leaks running the XalanTransformer tutorial in Release. (The debug
version works fine, without leaks)

I am compiling with Microsoft Visual C++ 6.0 SP5 on windows 2000 SP1, I also
installed Dinkum's STL fixes. I use rational's Purify to check for errors.

In debug Purify gives me a great deal of Uninitialised memory copys, but in
release I get a whole lot of Freeing mismatched memory and about 200k of
memory leaks (for the tutorial example).

I noticed in the dependency walker that XalanTransformer links with
msvcrt.dll which is the only dll that is in debug. I am thinking this might
be the problem, but both msvcrt.dll and msvcrtd.dll are listed as debug
versions on my machine.

Anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

Maybe I should try Installing STLport?

Jason
