[jira] Created: (INFRA-895) Mailing list changes causing problems
with spam filters
Mailing list changes causing problems with spam filters
-------------------------------------------------------
Key: INFRA-895
URL: http://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/INFRA-895
Project: Infrastructure
Issue Type: Improvement
Security Level: public (Regular issues)
Components: Mailing Lists
Environment: Email
Reporter: D Hohls
Sometime in the second week of July 2006, it appears that the method
for sending messages from the Cocoon mailing list was changed.
In the past, the "Created By" property would show up as
users@cocoon.apache.org
even though the "From" property would reflect the email of the
person sending the message. Now both 'from' and 'Created By'
are the same i.e. the email of the person sending the message.
This is causing a major headache, as I (and many others, I am
sure) am using a spam filter i.e. only "known" senders get
through to the mail box. The change in the sending method
is causing all mailing list messages to end up in the 'spam' box.
Is there a reason why the old method has been changed?
Is it possible to revert to the "old" way of doing things?

Resolution: Fixed
There is no "Created By" property in email messages.
Perhaps you are thinking of jira notifications? In any case,
you should discuss this with the Cocoon project and see if the
maintainers and moderators have done something locally.

Roy
First off, thanks for looking at this!
Second, the maintainers and moderators say that it is nothing to do
with
them & this is an Apache issue.
Third, I am not sure what you mean by "created by" or JIRA
notifications;
I was referring to the Cocoon users/developers mailing lists.
Are you saying there was NO change at all in the way the various
Apache
groups mailing lists are handled. I just find it strange that for
many years
emails sent to the list were sent "from" the cocoon-users mail address
and
during this year they suddenly started showing up as "from" individual
users.
Any other ideas or insights would be welcome - spam filters are here to
stay
(unfortunately) and it would be great to find a solution to this
issue.
Cheers
Derek
