Literal XML encoding style

What exactly does the literal XML encoding style do for a
Call(Constants.NS_URI_LITERAL_XML)?  I would have expected that it would
make the call return a DOM element in the Response and that no
deserialization would be necessary.  However, I get an exception that says
there is no deserializer for :Parameter.  Any ideas?
