[jstl] losing the sql connection

I'm finding that the sql Connection object is timing out [Oracle kills the
connection] and JSTL tags stop being able to connect to the database.

Anyone had this problem? I had been assuming that JSTL did not include any
sql connection caching and would leave this up to the server.

I'm using a default Tomcat 4.1 as the server, without any dbcp/poolman
libs plugged in.
