[jira] [Commented] (SLIDER-662) Slider against hadoop 2.5

    [ https://issues.apache.org/jira/browse/SLIDER-662?page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel&focusedCommentId=14220854#comment-14220854 ]

Steve Loughran commented on SLIDER-662:
---------------------------------------

To be clear, this is about running slider-0.60, with the hadoop-2.6 binaries, in a hadoop-2.5 cluster?

If that is done, at least on an insecure cluster, the registry would work as it does not directly depend on any hadoop 2.6 service.

Compiling against hadoop 2.5 is a separate problem, and more fundamental. We do depend on that yarn registry for the agents to locate the RM; the issue is not just compilation as the fact that the feature isn't there.

> Slider currently requires hadoop 2.6 and there are several hadoop 2.6 features that Slider has dependency on.
> Lets explore what it will take to support hadoop 2.5. Clearly, some features such as Yarn Service Registry, labels, log aggregation, credential provider, etc. will not be available.
> [~stevel@apache.org], [~billie.rinaldi], [~jmaron] what are the other key capabilities that will not be available when Slider is compiled against hadoop 2.5?
