Subversion and 3D studio max

Hi.

I work in a company developing different types of 3D material used for
presentations and real-time simulations.
All modeling is done with Autodesk 3D studio max and then exported to
VRML (text based), where functionality is added. Today we use subversion
to handle these VRML files, but we want to extend our repository to also
include the 3D studio and texture files. These files are usually quite
big (100-400MB including textures), and are being modified frequently
during a ordinary workday. After having done some testing with
Subversion and 3D max files, the commits were quite big resulting in a
rapidly increasing repository, which over time could become a problem.

I have searched the forum pages but could not find any relevant
information regarding tips or potential problems when subversion is used
for handling these types of projects. Has this been discussed before,
and if so could any of you point me in the right direction?

And is there a 3D studio max equivalent to the mayasvn plugin?

Thanks.
